Time: Sat, Feb 29, 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
Location: Hidden Valley Nature Center
DUE TO DANGEROUSLY ICY CONDITIONS, THE BIATHLON HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Click here for info on the Summer Biathlon on Saturday, July 11; skiing and snowshoeing will be replaced by running or fat tire biking.
Midcoast Conservancy will host its ninth annual Biathlon at Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate! Racers can compete individually or in teams of four, and everyone is encouraged to compete in costume.
All paintball rifles are provided by Midcoast Conservancy, and each racer will receive safety training on how to use the rifle. There will be snowshoe and fat bike races as well. Gear rentals will be available at the event.
Races will begin about 10 am and continue into the early afternoon. All day long there will be bonfires, along with veggie chili and hot chocolate from the Alna General Store. Spectators are encouraged. And consider volunteering if you’re not planning to race; we can always use extra hands!
Races consist of 1k laps (number determined by level) with turns at the shooting range. Awards will be given out for best costume, best team name, and for youth and high school aged participants.
The Biathlon will held even if there is no snow; trail running will replace skiing and snowshoeing in that case. Postponement for dangerous conditions only.
$20 for adults, $10 for kids and students. Space is limited and prices go up $5 per participant on Feb. 17th. Day-of registrations as space provides. Any questions, call Midcoast Conservancy at (207) 389-5150.
