Native Plant Fair & Sale

Join Midcoast Conservancy and the Waldoboro Community Garden Club for our second annual Native Plant Fair & Sale!

This festive day will include workshops, free plant raffle, block print craft station, and a native and edible plant sale.

Come for part or all of the day and join in on the fun while learning how to improve your “home habitat”! All attendees get one free raffle ticket per person. See detailed schedule of events below.

Participants are encouraged to explore downtown Waldoboro before or after the Native Plant Fair & Sale as this event is part of a larger “Waldoboro Block Party” Saturday May 30th. Numerous local businesses will be open and you can enjoy coffee, pastries, sandwiches, local art, house plants, handmade skin care, records, and so much more! 

Detailed schedule:

  • 10:00 AM: Native Plant Fair & Sale Opens! _ Both the plant sale and block print craft station will be set up for the duration of the event (10am-2pm) for participants to visit throughout the day. The block print craft station will have carved designs of native plants as well as ink and rollers, just bring your own natural fiber clothing item (tshirt, tote bag, jeans, etc) to print on! 

  • 10:30 AM: Native Plants and Pollinators with John Hayden - Learn to identify native pollinators and the plants that support them on a walk and talk with John Hayden, Entomologist/Ecologist and author of "Farming on the Wild Side". Bring a bug net if you have one! 

  • 12:00 PM: RAFFLE DRAWING! - All attendees who arrive before noon will receive a FREE raffle ticket to enter a drawing for native herbaceous plants, fruit and nut trees, and a home garden consultation. 

  • 12:30 PM: Native and Edible Landscaping with Isobel Curtis -Maine boasts an astounding array of beautiful native plants that not only support pollinators and wildlife, but are tasty to humans as well. Discover how to create ecologically functional landscapes around your home that are both aesthetic and edible with Isobel Curtis, Midcoast Conservancy's Stewardship Director. 

  • 1:30 PM: Apple Grafting Topworking Demo with Nick DelPrete - Do you have an old apple tree or crab apple tree at home? Learn how to graft tasty apple varieties onto your existing trees during this topworking demonstration with Nick DelPrete of Twin Oak Forest Farm. 

  • 2:00 PM: Native Plant Fair & Sale ends

Parking is available at the trailhead behind the American Legion Building, and throughout downtown Waldoboro.

The event will take place in a large field along the river with a gentle hill and soft, uneven terrain. Please wear appropriate footwear!

While this is a free event, we appreciate your registration which is essential for our planning.
All are welcome! Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
