Damariscotta Lake
To spend time on Damariscotta Lake is to fall in love with it.
Sparkling clean water dotted with small islands, a soundtrack of trilling loons and premier fishing are just some of what makes it so special. The lake covers 4,600 acres, and has shoreline in Jefferson, Nobleboro and Newcastle. Kayaking, canoeing, sailing, world-class iceboating and swimming are a few of the many ways to get out on the water.
ISLAND CLOSURE: Our loon friends nest on Spectacle Islands from May 31 to July 15 so the site is closed to ALL visitors. No day use at all. Thanks for helping us support the health and safety of our lake loon families!
Our work in and around Damariscotta Lake began back in 1966, with the founding of the Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association, a Midcoast Conservancy legacy organization.
Today our staff and Damariscotta Lake supporters, are fierce advocates and stewards of the lake and its long term environmental health. We serve as the eyes and ears on Damariscotta Lake and are committed to enhancing the quality of life in and around the lake, assuring enjoyment for all of its natural and human residents. We promote access to healthy recreation, protect the water quality of the lake, educate the next generation of stewards, provide information to community residents and seasonal visitors, and promote stewardship of the watershed. We are always looking for passionate and committed volunteers!
If you are interested in supporting our work in the Damariscotta Lake Watershed, in having your lake front property Lake Smart certified, or in volunteering for our Courtesy Boat Inspection Program or Invasive Plant Patrol, please email our Damariscotta Lake Watershed Manager, Patricia Nease, at patricia@midcoastconservancy.org.
