New HVNC Welcome Center Dedicated

“Education, Conservation, Community” are the three words Tracy Moskovitz used to describe Roland S. Barth while dedicating Hidden Valley Nature Center (HVNC)’s new Welcome Center in his honor on Saturday, October 29th.

Situated at the entrance to HVNC, located in Jefferson, the Roland S. Barth Welcome Center will serve as a new hub for activities at the 1,000-acre, awarding-winning nature center.  Visitors will be able to craft their own adventure while exploring over 25 miles of trails, learning about sustainable forestry practices, and renting mountain bikes, cross-country skis, canoes, cabins and campsites. The Welcome Center will also offer volunteer opportunities to Welcome Center Stewards who will be trained to assist visitors with any of their needs.

Roland S. Barth, a long-time resident of Alna, was an educator and conservationist who, with his father and brother, founded the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association (SVCA), a precursor to Midcoast Conservancy. Barth passed away last fall.

In addition to HVNC founder Moskovitz, speakers at the event included Midcoast Conservancy Executive Director Pete Nichols, Director of HVNC Andy Bezon, and Barbara Bauman, Roland Barth’s widow.
