Land Stewardship Strategies
-
Continue to monitor all properties, create and update management plans, and establish and maintain boundary markings on all properties in compliance with Land Trust Alliance (LTA) requirements.
Ensure regular engagement with landowners of easement lands to prevent violations.
Update processes to address and resolve violations on conserved properties as quickly and fairly as possible.
-
Conduct current invasive species management at Trout Brook and Musquash Pond preserves pursuant to existing grant funding.
Continue sustainable forestry management projects at Hidden Valley Nature Center and Liberty Woods Community Forest.
-
Develop and pursue relationships in support of our land conservation fund.
Create opportunities for the Lands Committee and other volunteers to assist in project development and support.
-
Use best practices for trail construction and maintenance to prioritize the protection of land, water, and wildlife resources.
Conduct an assessment of the current trail network to determine how trails will be prioritized and maintained in the future.
Develop a recreation policy as it relates to current and future needs.
-
Cultivate and leverage an active volunteer base to expand stewardship capacity for monitoring, boundary marking, and trail maintenance.
Explore and invest in new tools and software that can help with the collection and storage of stewardship data.
Ensure stewardship needs are appropriately supported by growing our stewardship endowment fund.
-
Invite and promote opportunities for board, staff, and volunteers to participate in training.
Explore Indigenous access to conserved land for traditional uses, as suitable.
