Activities Cancelled for Weekend of 1/15 - 1/16
Well, we wish the trails looked like the photo to the right (taken last weekend)…but unfortunately they don’t! Due to icy conditions and the forecast for dangerous temperatures, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel activities at Hidden Valley Nature Center this weekend - that includes the ski clinics AND all rentals.
That said, the property is open so you are welcome to choose your own adventure, but please bundle up, bring grippers or metal studs, and be safe!

Wiley's Way Trail has new bog bridges built by our volunteer trail stewards! Come check out this lovely section of trail along Kidney Pond. Thank you to all of our hardworking volunteers!
Be aware that the Kidney Pond Trail is closed for the rest of August while a sturdy, vehicle worthy bridge is installed.
With the State of Maine fire danger level for our area set at High, all fires are prohibited. Please heed this temporary fire ban as the best way to prevent fire emergencies during the current dry season.
If you are heading out to HVNC this weekend, you can revel in the freshly mowed Haybale Trail to Kidney Pond Loop! Other trails are open, with varying trail conditions to suit any adventurer's preference and abilities.

Trails at Hidden Valley are a little muddy but lovely. Flowers are blooming and leaves are budding out. Don’t be surprised if you find sticks, branches or the occasional tree down on a trail not yet visited since winter. Do your part by throwing branches off the trail. Want to do more? No longer do we have the great conditions of February. With the warming temps and mix of snow and rain the trails have grass patches surrounded by stretches of ice covered in the dusting of snow we’ve seen over night. Decent hiking with micro spikes but not skiable right now. The weather doesn’t bode well for future skiing but we’ll see.
While its colder today than it has been, the rain and warmer temps the last wee have made for firm and icy conditions. Were hopeful that there is still snow in our future!
Trails were groomed Sunday morning and again this morning. Beautiful base with packed powder. Best skiing in years!!!
Trails are groomed and looking beautiful after yesterday's snow. Bowl Loop, Little Dyer Pond, Slick Rock, and the Couch Hill Loop are all groomed.
With the snow Sunday conditions are looking great! With the sun hitting the trails this morning the snow is getting a little stickier but the conditions are still really good. We groomed Pond Trail, and the Couch Hill after the storm Sunday so there is decent skiing everywhere. A lot of skiers breaking trails on the ones we didn’t groom so a lot of fresh tracks to be had!
