Winter is a beautiful time to be outside!

It is - for some - their favorite time to connect with nature.
We provide information here about skiing at our Hidden Valley, and on plowing to access our other public preserves.

Ski Season at hidden valley nature center

Hidden Valley is a beautiful place to cross country ski! After a storm, the trails glisten with fresh powder and our extensive trail network is a winter wonderland begging for adventure. Our dedicated staff does their best to groom a number of lovely loops from the parking lot, down to Little Dyer Pond, around Sugar Ridge, up Moose Alley and along Haybale. Outer trails on our 1,000 acre property beg to be broken by intrepid ski enthusiasts looking to set fresh tracks.

Check out our Trail Report for the latest in trail conditions.

Ski Club! Join cross country skiers of all ages and abilities on Sunday mornings (starting Jan. 11, 2026) until the snow runs out for our Ski Club at Hidden Valley Nature Center. Come when you can to revel in winter! Ski with friends and enjoy fireside community conversations. Glide along groomed trail loops or venture farther out to break trail along the far reaches of the property. Return to the fire to share the tales of your adventure while the kids throw snowballs and tumble in the powder.

Interested in learning to ski? Register for four lessons, which will be held on January 11, 18, 25, and February 1, $40 per person. All ages welcome, groups will be divided by age and ability. Skills taught will include getting up after a fall, balance on skis, learning to glide, climbing hills, turning downhill, and how to effectively use poles.

Plowing Information

If you’re compelled to check out any of our public preserves during the winter, we do plow and maintain lots at some, but not all, due to visitor use and staff capacity. Please check which lots are maintained via this link.
