Help Close-the-Gap on a Medomak Headwaters Acquisition

Set to close in mid-October, we’re announcing a vital acquisition in the Medomak Headwaters, which is the highest-scoring parcel ever reviewed in Midcoast Conservancy’s history!

Midcoast Conservancy is on the brink of protecting another key property in one of midcoast Maine’s largest and most ecologically diverse wetland systems. The 280 acre property in the Medomak Headwaters features a state-recognized unpatterned fen, a rare wetland ecosystem that supports a suite of sensitive and unique plant and animal species, a mile of frontage along both sides of Pettengill Stream, more than 100 acres of mapped wetlands, and critical habitat for inland waterfowl and wading birds.

Surrounded by protected areas managed by The Nature Conservancy, Georges River Land Trust, and the Maine Farmland Trust, the site sits at the intersection of a critical conservation mosaic and ranks among the highest we have ever evaluated in terms of aquatic quality, terrestrial quality, and terrestrial connectivity!

We have raised nearly all of the project costs - and are announcing a Close the Gap campaign to help with the remaining $20,000. You can help today to protect in perpetuity this incredible property - donate online here or mail a check for the Medomak Headwaters Project to Midcoast Conservancy, PO Box 439, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
